Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Multi-factor authentication adds a critical security layer to your Vidos account by requiring two forms of verification during login. This guide helps you enable and configure MFA for your account.

Prerequisites

Before setting up MFA, ensure you have:

  • An active Vidos account
  • A smartphone with an authenticator app installed (Google Authenticator, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator, or similar)
  • Your account password

Steps to enable MFA

  1. Sign in to your Vidos dashboard.

  2. Select Account from the navigation menu in the bottom left corner.

  3. Navigate to the Security section.

  4. Find the Multi-factor Authentication panel and select Enable MFA.

  5. Enter your account password when prompted to verify your identity.

  6. Scan the displayed QR code with your authenticator app

  7. Enter the 6-digit verification code generated by your authenticator app.

  8. Select Verify and enable.

  9. Save your backup recovery codes:

    • Store these codes securely in a password manager or other secure location
    • You'll need these codes if you lose access to your authenticator app
    • Select I've saved my recovery codes to continue
  10. Select Finish setup to complete the process.

Test your MFA setup

  1. Sign out of your account by selecting your profile picture in the top right corner and choosing Sign out.

  2. Sign back in with your email and password.

  3. When prompted, enter the current verification code from your authenticator app.

  4. Verify you can successfully access your account.

Use recovery codes

If you lose access to your authenticator app:

  1. On the sign-in page, enter your email and password.

  2. When prompted for the verification code, select Use a recovery code instead.

  3. Enter one of your saved recovery codes.

  4. After using a recovery code, it becomes invalid. Set up a new authenticator device immediately by following this guide again.

Troubleshooting

  • Time synchronization issues: Ensure your device's time is correctly synchronized. Incorrect time settings can cause authentication failures.
  • "Invalid code" error: Verify you're entering the most recent code from your authenticator app. These codes refresh every 30 seconds.
  • Lost access to authenticator app: Use one of your recovery codes to sign in, then immediately set up MFA on a new device.
